We’ve been preparing for this for exactly 3 months! Launching on Kickstarter or any other crowdfunding platform is not an easy task. It takes time, preparation and lots of patience. Many entrepreneurs are very anxious to get launched as soon as possible but it is more important to take the time and make the best effort to try to consider all options. In this post, we wanted to walk you through some of the trials and tribulations of launching on Kickstarter.

The Research
We had a team of 4 dedicated solely to KickStarter. It starts out with research. We have scoured lots of successful and failed projects to analyze some patterns and lessons learned. Although there is no “secret sauce” per se that we were able to uncover (may be there is and we just don’t know about it) but what we found is that a true, legitimate and relatable story is one of the most important success factors. If you have a good story to tell, then it would be interesting to listen. The same applies to Kickstarter.

The Video and Photo shoot
Videos are pain in the @$$ 😀 Be prepared to reshoot it many many times (unless of course you have great experience making videos). We had countless retakes as it takes practice to get that perfect shot. We actually had scripts written and discovered that it is rather impossible to record with scripts. It is much easier to speak from your own perspective and just remember key points that you want to address. At the end of the day, we had lots of fun and we think that the video turned out great (after numerous cuts and edits, for which Michael must hate us now).
Why did we decide to go with Kickstarter to begin with? Good question. Crowdfunding allows for creative ideas to come to life and build a small group of followers in a very ‘intimate’ way. What we mean is that you are able to tell your story and communicate directly with your potential backers. This builds trust and creates a bond that should eventually lead to people to want to see you succeed.
